Branding Design

Mami Wata is a haircare line that was developed by Nefertiti, the owner of Detroit based salon —Textures by Nefertiti. The products were created by Nefertiti in 2015 to help combat itchy and dry scalp. Due to the pandemic, her salon had to close. This provided Nefertiti with the opportunity to devote more time to developing her product line, Mami Wata.

RESEARCH
Conducting design research to define the project scope and gain an understanding of MamiWata as a business, my team subsequently developed Nicky Norman as our primary persona to inform our design choices.
REFLECTION
Mamiwata was my first experience with a real business. I would like to thank our clients for teaching me about African culture, curly haircare, and self love.
I also want to thank my teammates for all the collaborations and constant learning from each other. Lastly, I would like to thank Jill Greene for all the guidance and advises.
